The 30 Best Southern Movies

Date: March 15, 2015

When people talk about visiting the South, they will most often liken it to a movie that depicts bucolic vistas and less than accurate drawls, yet there are some gems that stand out from the rest. While not all represent important achievements in American film making, each of these movies accurately displays some significant aspect of true southern life in the time period in which it takes place (except for numbers 20 and 27 which are just darn amusing to watch.) The list is in order of release date because ranking these in any other order would be like asking a Southerner who makes the best fried chicken or which is the best brand of bourbon.
